On Monday, 1 December 2025, BPS-Statistics Sumatera Utara Province released the December 2025 edition of the Berita Resmi Statistik (Official Statistical News), presented by Misfaruddin, Senior Functional Statistician of BPS Sumut. This release features five key indicators: exports–imports, inflation, farmers’ terms of trade, tourism, and transportation.
Sumatera Utara’s exports in October 2025 reached US$1,176.97 million, driven primarily by industrial commodities such as animal and vegetable fats and oils, which grew by 13.45 percent. Meanwhile, imports amounted to US$459.43 million, or 12.03 percent lower than the previous year, with declines observed in several commodities including fish and shrimp. These developments reflect improved efficiency in raw material utilization while maintaining a trade surplus.
Year-on-year inflation stood at 3.96 percent with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 110.42. Gunungsitoli recorded the highest inflation at 5.17 percent, while Karo posted the lowest at 2.34 percent. During the same period, month-to-month deflation reached 0.42 percent, and year-to-date inflation was recorded at 2.96 percent.
The Farmers’ Terms of Trade (NTP) in November 2025 increased to 149.33, rising 0.35 percent from the previous month. This growth was supported by improvements in the subsectors of food crops, smallholder plantations, livestock, and fisheries.
In the tourism sector, international tourist arrivals in October 2025 totaled 24,822 visits, a decrease of 15.49 percent compared to the previous month. However, cumulatively from January to October 2025, tourist arrivals increased by 18.25 percent compared with the same period in 2024. The star-rated hotel occupancy rate also rose to 40.70 percent. Tourist mobility was primarily supported by air transportation with 245,405 arrivals and sea transportation with 2,547 arrivals.
