February 2018: Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) of 5.59 percent

1. The labor force in February 2018 was 7.23 million people. Population working in Sumatera Utara in February 2018 as many as 6.82 million people.
 
2. Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) in February 2018 of 5.59 percent or as many as 403 thousand people.
 
3. The agricultural sector still absorbs the largest number of workers, reaching 38.95 percent in February 2018, but compared to February 2017 there was a decline of 3.62 points compared to the percentage of the population working in agriculture sector in February 2017 of 42.57 percent.
 
4. In February 2018, there were 35.45 percent of the working population not full (hours less than 35 hours per week) covering 8.18 percent of the unemployed and 27.27 percent of part-time workers.

5. In February 2018, 62.18 percent of the population worked on informal activities. The percentage of informal workers rose 1.29 percentage points compared to February 2017.

 6. In general, during February 2017 to February 2018 there was an increase in employment conditions in Sumatera Utara. Among the increasing number of working population, increasing Labor Force Participation Rate, rising population working above normal working hours and decreasing of free labor in agriculture sector.
