Abstract

  • In October 2018, all CPI cities in Sumatera Utara experienced inflation, namely Sibolga at 1.24 percent; Pematangsiantar of 0.80 percent; Medan at 1.44 percent; and Padangsidimpuan by 0.11 percent. Therefore, the combined 4 CPI cities in Sumatera Utara in October 2018 experienced inflation of 1.31 percent.
  • In October 2018, Medan inflation was 1.44 percent or there was an increase in index from 137.28 in September 2018 to 139.26 in October 2018. Inflation occurred because of an increase in prices indicated by an increase in the index of all expenditure groups, namely the material group food by 4.20 percent; processed food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group at 0.53 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group by 0.71 percent; clothing group by 2.06 percent; health group by 0.09 percent; the education, recreation and sports group by 0.16 percent; and the transportation, communication and financial services group by 0.25 percent.
  • The main commodities contributing to inflation during October 2018 in Medan, including red chili, wages of domestic helpers, vegetables / rice cake, gasoline, mustard greens, dresses / canals, and cayenne pepper.
  • Of the 23 CPI cities in Sumatra Island 19 cities experienced inflation. The highest inflation occurred in Medan at 1.44 percent with CPI of 139.26 and the lowest occurred in Bandar Lampung by 0.02 percent with CPI of 134.39.
