• In January 2019, three CPI cities in Sumatera Utara experienced inflation, namely Pematangsiantar by 0.01 percent; Medan by 0.22 percent; and Padangsidimpuan of 0.46 percent, while Sibolga was deflation of 0.03 percent. Thus, the combined inflation of 4 CPI cities in Sumatera Utara in January 2019 was 0.20 percent.
• January 2019, Medan inflation of 0.22 percent or an increase in index from 138.53 in December 2018 to 138.83 in January 2019. Inflation occurs because of an increase in prices as indicated by the index increase of most expenditure groups, namely housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group by 0.21 percent; clothing group by 0.91 percent; health group by 0.19 percent; the education, recreation and sports group by 0.20 percent; and the transportation, communication and financial services group of 2.13 percent. Meanwhile, the group experiencing a decline in index, namely the foodstuffs group by 1.32 percent and the processed food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group by 0.02 percent.
• The main commodities contributing to inflation during January 2019 in Medan, including air transport, bloating / bloating, dencis, gold jewelery, cars, wages for domestic servants, and wet shrimp.
• Out of the 23 CPI cities on Sumatra Island, 18 cities experienced inflation. The highest inflation occurred in Tanjung Pandan at 1.23 percent with CPI of 145.12 and the lowest occurred in Pematang Siantar by 0.01 percent with CPI of 139.10.
