• In January 2019, Sumatera Utara Province's NTP (2012 = 100) was recorded at 98.57 or an increase of 1.30 percent compared to December 2018's NTP, which amounted to 97.31.
• The increase in NTP in January 2019 was caused by an increase in the Food Crop Subsector NTP by 0.98 percent, the People's Plantation Crops Sub-sector NTP by 3.36 percent, Livestock sub-sector NTP by 1.08 percent, and Fisheries sub-sector NTP by 0.24 percent. While the Horticulture sub-sector NTP fell by 2.54 percent.
• Changes in the Household Consumption Index (SCE) reflect the rural inflation / deflation rate. In January 2019, there was a rural deflation in Sumatera Utara of 0.28 percent. This was due to the decline in several household consumption indexes, namely the foodstuffs group index by 1.13 percent, and the transportation and communication group index by 0.06 percent. While the index of processed foods, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco rose by 0.51 percent, the housing group index rose by 0.53 percent, the clothing index rose by 0.55 percent, the health group index rose by 0.70 percent, and the index the Education, Recreation and Sports group rose by 0.34 percent.
• The Exchange Rate of Agricultural Household Businesses (NTUP) of Sumatera Utara Province in January 2019 amounted to 106.35, up 0.84 percent compared to NTUP the previous month.
