In April 2019, all CPI cities in Sumatera Utara were inflation, namely
Sibolga at 1.15 percent; Pematangsiantar at 1.03 percent; Medan by 1.30
percent; and Padangsidimpuan by 0.36 percent. Thus, the combined 4 CPI
cities in Sumatera Utara in April 2019 inflation was 1.23 percent.

April 2019, Medan inflation of 1.30 percent or an increase in index
from 138.86 in March 2019 to 140.66 in April 2019. Inflation occurs due
to an increase in prices as indicated by an increase in the index of all
expenditure groups, namely groups food ingredients 4.94 percent;
processed food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group by 0.06 percent;
housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group by 0,12 percent;
clothing group by 0.67 percent; health group by 0.23 percent; the
education, recreation and sports group by 0.07 percent; and the
transportation, communication and financial services group by 0.22
percent.

The main commodities contributing to inflation during April 2019 in
Medan included red chili, shallots, garlic, house contracts, cars, long
beans and green chili.

Out of the 23 CPI cities in Sumatera, all cities recorded inflation.
The highest inflation occurred in Medan at 1.30 percent with CPI of
140.66 and the lowest was in Tanjung Pinang at 0.16 percent with IHK
133.84.
