• The North Sumatra economy in 2020 as measured by Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) at current prices reaches IDR 811,282.84 billion and PDRB per capita reaches IDR 55.18 million.
• The economy of North Sumatra in 2020 contracted 1.07 percent compared to 2019's achievement of 5.22 percent. From the production side, the highest contraction was experienced by the Transportation and Warehousing Business Field, amounting to 12.77 percent. From the expenditure side, the highest contraction was experienced by the Goods and Services Export Component at 10.36 percent.
• The economy of North Sumatra in the fourth quarter of 2020 compared to the fourth quarter of 2019 experienced a contraction of 2.94 percent (y-on-y). From the production side, the highest contraction was experienced by the Transportation and Warehousing Business Field, amounting to 16.93 percent. From the expenditure side, the highest contraction was experienced by the Goods and Services Export Component at 15.12 percent.
• The economy of North Sumatra in the fourth quarter of 2020 compared to the third quarter of 2020 experienced a slowdown by 0.05 percent (q-to-q). From the production side, this was due to a decrease in the agricultural, forestry and fishery business fields which decreased by 2.10 percent. From the expenditure side, this was due to the component of goods and services exports which experienced a slowdown by 2.59 percent.
• The economic structure of Sumatra Island is spatially dominated in 2020 by North Sumatra and Riau Provinces. North Sumatra Province provided the largest contribution to Gross Domestic Product on the island of Sumatra, amounting to 24.06 percent, followed by Riau Province at 21.62 percent and South Sumatra Province at 13.60 percent.
