Abstract

The economy of North Sumatra based on the amount of Gross Regional Domestic Product (GDP) based on current prices in the third quarter of 2021 reached Rp 218.46 trillion and at constant prices in 2010 reached Rp 138.81 trillion.
  • North Sumatra's economy in the third quarter of 2021 compared to the previous quarter grew by 1.98 percent (q-to-q). In terms of production, the Health Services and Social Activities Business Field experienced the highest growth of 5.67 percent. In terms of expenditure, the export of goods and services was the component with the highest growth of 7.56 percent.
  • North Sumatra's economy in the third quarter of 2021 compared to the third quarter of 2020 grew by 3.67 percent (y-on-y). In terms of production, the Financial Services and Insurance Business Field experienced the highest growth of 8.43 percent. In terms of expenditure, the Export Component of Goods and Services experienced the highest growth of 16.67 percent.
  • North Sumatra's economy cumulatively in the third quarter of 2021 against the third quarter of 2020 grew by 2.20 percent (c-to-c). In terms of production, the largest growth occurred in the Information and Communication Business Field of 6.21 percent. Meanwhile, in terms of expenditure, the highest growth occurred in the Export Component of Goods and Services at 14.71 percent.
  • The economic structure of Sumatra Island spatially in the third quarter of 2021 was dominated by several provinces, including North Sumatra Province which contributed the largest to GRDP on Sumatra Island by 23.21 percent, Riau Province by 23.00 percent; South Sumatra Province by 13.49 percent, and Lampung Province by 10.41 percent. While the lowest contribution was Bengkulu Province at 2.11 percent.
