Abstract

Farmer's Exchange Rate (NTP) is the ratio of the price index received by farmers (It) to the index of price paid by farmers (Ib).
  • NTP is one indicator to see the level of ability/purchasing power of farmers in rural areas. NTP also shows the terms of trade (terms of trade) of agricultural products with goods and services consumed as well as for production costs.
  • In May 2022, the NTP of Sumatera Utara Province (2018=100) was recorded at 116.40 or decreased by 10.72 percent compared to the NTP of April 2022, which was 130.38.
  • The decline in NTP in May 2022 was caused by the decrease in NTP in the People's Plantation Sub-sector by 18.49 percent. Meanwhile, the FTT for the other four sub-sectors experienced an increase, namely the FTT for the Food Crops sub-sector by 0.06 percent, the NTP for the Horticulture sub-sector by 1.05 percent, the NTP for the Livestock sub-sector by 0.69 percent, and the NTP for the Fisheries sub-sector by 0.36 percent.
  • Changes in the Household Consumption Index (IKRT) reflect the rate of rural inflation/deflation. In May 2022, rural inflation in Sumatera Utara was 0.44 percent.
  • The Agricultural Household Business Exchange Rate (NTUP) of Sumatera Utara Province in May 2022 was 114.75 or decreased by 10.85 percent compared to the previous month's NTUP.
