Abstract

In March 2023, (the level of inequality in population spending as measured by) North Sumatra's Gini Ratio was recorded at 0.309. This figure decreased by 0.017 points when compared to the September 2022 Gini Ratio and also decreased by 0.003 points when compared to the March 2022 Gini Ratio which was 0.312.
  • The Gini Ratio in urban areas in March 2023 was recorded at 0.340, while in rural areas it was 0.242. Both in urban and rural areas experienced a decrease of 0.018 points and 0.017 points respectively when compared to the September 2022 Gini Ratio.
  • Based on the World Bank's measure of inequality, the distribution of expenses for the bottom 40 percent of the population in March 2023 was 22.48 percent. This means that people's expenditure is still in the category of low levels of inequality. If broken down by region, in urban areas the figure is recorded at 20.95 percent and in rural areas the figure is recorded at 25.46 percent, which means that both are also in the low inequality category.
