Abstract

Early information, such as the perception of business actors and household consumption actors on the economic situation, is a very important requirement for all parties. Early information is indispensable to governments, businesses, and communities as they are able to provide early signals about the forecast of short-term economic conditions. Since 1995, the Central Bureau of Statistics has developed an Early Indicator Monitoring System, which includes calculating the Business Tendency Index and the Consumer Tendency Index. Business Tendency Index (ITB) is calculated based on the result of Business Tendency Survey (STB), now ITB's score can only be presented to national level because limited number of STB samples. The Consumer Tendency Index (ITK) is calculated based on the results of the Consumer Tendency Survey (STK). This publication describes the methods and results of the calculation of ITK in quarter I to IV of 2017 and the first quarter estimate of 2018. Before the first quarter of 2011, BPS only conducted STK in Jabodetabek area, but since the first quarter of 2011 the implementation of STK was expanded throughout the province. With the expansion of samples, the value of ITK can be presented to the provincial level. These efforts are expected to meet the needs of increasingly diverse data to the regional level (inter-provincial spatial).
