A Portrait of the 2020 Population Census in Sumatera Utara Province towards One Indonesian Population Data

North Sumatra is a province with enormous potential. In terms of population, North Sumatra is the fourth largest province in Indonesia after West Java, East Java and Central Java. With the right strategy, the population can become the nation's strength for advanced Indonesia. In order to realize the aspirations of an Advanced Indonesia, BPS is endeavoring to complete the mandate to carry out the 2020 Population Census (SP2020) with various challenges amid the Covid-19 pandemic. With the permission of God Almighty accompanied by the hard work of all parties, the SP2020 field data collection in North Sumatra has been completed with various governance adjustments at each stage and sticking to the big goals of SP2020. Even though SP2020 was implemented in the midst of a pandemic, there were several innovations applied, one of which was the use of a combination method that was applied for the first time in the history of population censuses in Indonesia. The combination method is the use of population administration data (adminduk) from the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Ditjen Dukcapil) of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) as the basic data for SP2020. This is designed and implemented as an effort to create One Indonesian Population Data. One step closer to One Indonesian Population Data, BPS together with the Directorate General of Dukcapil released the SP2020 results. The implementation journey and the results of SP2020 are presented briefly in the booklet Portrait of the 2020 Population Census, North Sumatra Province Towards One Indonesian Population Data.
This booklet presents the aggregate basic data on the population of North Sumatra down to the district / city level. The basic data coverage of the SP2020 results is the population by sex, administrative area, along with its derivative parameters such as population density, sex ratio, and population growth rate. It is hoped that the data will be able to meet the current population data needs for planning, monitoring, evaluation of development programs and various research references.
