Abstract

The Foreign Trade Statistics: Imports of North Sumatra Province 2025 is a continuation of the previous annual publications regularly issued by Statistics Indonesia (Badan Pusat Statistik/BPS) of North Sumatra Province. The data presented in this publication are derived from the processing of Import Declaration (PIB) documents, which include information on net weight (tons) and value (thousand US dollars), further detailed by commodity, country of origin, continent of origin, and port of import. The compilation of data applies internationally recognized classification systems, namely the Harmonized System (HS) and the Standard International Trade Classification (SITC), thereby ensuring global comparability. In 2025, imports to North Sumatra Province generally experienced a decline compared with previous years, reflecting weakened demand amid economic pressures and prolonged global conflicts. Imports continued to be dominated by raw materials and intermediate goods that support regional industrial activities, while capital goods and consumer goods accounted for a relatively smaller share. Several strategic commodities, including mineral fuels, machinery and mechanical appliances, residues from the food processing industry, plastics, and fertilizers, remained the province’s principal imported commodities.
