Abstract

• The economy of Sumatera Utara based on Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) based on current prices in the second quarter of 2019 reached Rp197,550.59 billion and at the base of constant 2010 prices reached Rp133,391.43 billion.
• The economy of Sumatera Utara in quarter II-2019 against quarter II-2018 grew 5.25 percent (y-on-y). From the production side, growth was driven by all business fields, where the highest growth was achieved by the Information and Communication Business Field at 9.82 percent. In terms of expenditure, the highest growth was achieved by the Government Consumption Expenditure Component of 18.50 percent.
• The economy of Sumatera Utara in quarter II-2019 compared to the previous quarter increased by 2.10 percent (q-to-q). In terms of production, the highest growth was in the Government Administration, Defense and Social Security Business Field at 4.57 percent. In terms of expenditure, the highest growth was achieved by the Government Consumption Expenditure Component of 10.90 percent.
• The economy of Sumatera Utara in the first semester of 2019 compared to that of the first semester of 2018 increased by 5.28 percent (c-to-c). In terms of production, the highest growth was in the Information and Communication Business Field at 9.40 percent. In terms of expenditure, the highest growth was achieved by the Government Consumption Expenditure Component of 18.04 percent.
• Spatial economic structure in Sumatera Utara Island in quarter II-2019 was dominated by several provinces including Sumatera Utara Province which gave the largest contribution to GRDP on Sumatra Island by 23.18 percent, followed by Riau Province by 22.29 percent, South Sumatra Province by 13.29 percent, and Lampung Province by 10.77 percent. While the lowest contribution was made by Bengkulu Province and Bangka Belitung Islands Province.
