Abstract

• The economy of Sumatera Utara based on Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) based on current prices in the second quarter of 2020 reached Rp 197.64 trillion and at the base of constant prices in 2010 reached Rp 130.23 trillion.
• The economy of Sumatera Utara in the second quarter of 2020 compared to the second quarter of 2019 experienced a contraction of 2.37 percent (y-on-y). From the production side, the highest growth was achieved by the Information and Communication business sector by 5.42 percent. In terms of expenditure, the highest growth was achieved by the Government Consumption Expenditure Component (PK-P) which grew by 1.54 percent.
• The economy of Sumatera Utara in the second quarter of 2020 compared to the first quarter of 2020 decreased by 4.75 percent (q-to-q). From the production side, the decline was caused by a contraction that occurred in most business sectors. While from the expenditure side, the decline was caused by contraction in all components except the Government Consumption Expenditure Component.
• Economy of Sumatera Utara Semester I-2020 compared to semester I-2019 grew 1.11 percent (c-to-c). In terms of production, the highest growth in the Information and Communication business sector was 7.65 percent. From the expenditure side, the highest growth was in the PMTB component which grew by 2.87 percent.
• Spatial economic structure on the island of Sumatra in the second quarter of 2020 was dominated by several provinces including Sumatera Utara Province giving the largest contribution to the GRDP on the island of Sumatra by 24.35 percent, followed by Riau Province by 20.71 percent, South Sumatra Province by 13 , 99 percent, and Lampung Province by 11.03 percent. Meanwhile, the lowest contribution was made by Bengkulu Province by 2.21 percent and Bangka Belitung Islands Province by 2.20 percent.
