• In September 2019, all CPI cities in Sumatera Utara had deflation, namely Sibolga by 1.94 percent; Pematangsiantar by 1.18 percent; Medan by 1.92 percent and Padangsidimpuan by 0.95 percent. Thus, the combined 4 CPI cities in Sumatera Utara in September 2019 deflation was 1.81 percent.
• In September 2019, the deflationary field was 1.92 percent or the index decreased from 146.70 in August 2019 to 143.88 in September 2019. Deflation occurred due to a price decline as indicated by the decline in the index of some expenditure groups, namely groups food ingredients by 7.57 percent; and transportation, communication and financial services by 0.03 percent. Meanwhile, groups that showed an increase in index, namely the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group by 0.47 percent; clothing group by 0,69 percent; health group of 0.07 percent. While the processed food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group and the education, recreation and sports group did not experience a change in index.
• The main contributors to deflation in September 2019 in Medan include red chili, cayenne pepper, shallots, air transportation, green chili, purebred chicken, and cucumber.
• Out of 23 CPI cities on Sumatra Island, 19 cities recorded deflation. The highest deflation occurred in Sibolga of 1.94 percent with CPI of 144.61 and the lowest in Tanjung Pinang of 0.11 percent with CPI of 135.56.
