· In January 2021, all CPI
cities in North Sumatra had inflation, namely Sibolga by 0.74 percent;
Pematangsiantar by 1.13 percent; Medan by 0.38 percent; Padangsidimpuan by 0.38
percent; and Gunung Sitoli by 1.08 percent. Thus, the combined 5 CPI cities in
North Sumatra in January 2021 inflation of 0.45 percent.
· In January 2021, Medan
recorded an inflation of 0.38 percent or an increase in the Consumer Price
Index (CPI) from 104.15 in December 2020 to 104.55 in January 2021. Inflation
occurred due to an increase in prices indicated, namely the food, beverage
group and tobacco 1.14 percent; clothing and footwear group by 0.03 percent;
equipment, tools and household routine maintenance group of 0.21 percent; the
health group of 0.33 percent; and the food and beverage / restaurant supply
group by 0.56 percent. The expenditure group that experienced a decrease in
index were the transportation group by 0.07 percent; and personal care and
other services group by 0.64 percent. The other four groups that did not experience
changes in index, namely the housing, water, electricity, and household fuels
group; information, communication and financial services group; recreational,
sports, and cultural groups; and education groups.
· The main commodities
contributing to inflation during January 2021 in Medan include tomatoes, dencis
fish, tuna / ambu-ambu, anchovies, chilies, mackerel / mackerel, purebred
chicken, ketupat / lontong sayur. Of the 24 CPI cities on the
island of Sumatra, all cities recorded inflation. The highest inflation was in
Pangkal Pinang at 1.17 percent with the CPI at 104.65 and the lowest in Padang
at 0.10 percent with the CPI at 105.49.
