Abstract

The percentage of poor people in North Sumatra has decreased by 0.52 points, from 9.01 percent in March 2021 to 8.49 percent in September 2021. This poverty rate is equivalent to 1.27 million people in September 2021, or a decrease of around 70.8 thousand souls in the last semester.
  • The percentage of poor people in September 2021 in urban areas is 8.68 percent, and 8.26 percent in rural areas. Urban areas decreased by 0.47 points, while rural areas decreased by 0.58 points compared to March 2021.
  • The Poverty Line in September 2021 was recorded at Rp 537,310.00/capita/month with the composition of the Food Poverty Line of Rp404,860.00 (75.35%) and the Non-Food Poverty Line of Rp132,451.00 (24.65%).
  • In the period March 2021 – September 2021, the Poverty Depth Index (P1) shows a decline and conversely the Poverty Severity Index (P2) shows a slight increase. P1 fell from 1.522 in March 2021 to 1.450 in September 2021, and P2 rose from 0.376 to 0.382. This indicates that the average expenditure of the poor tends to increase and is getting closer to the poverty line, this decrease in the depth of poverty also occurred in March 2021. On the contrary, the level of disparity in expenditure between the poor increased slightly, where in the March 2021 period it had decreased.
