Abstract

In July 2023 there was a combined year on year (yoy) inflation for five cities in Sumatera Utara (Sibolga, Pematangsiantar, Medan, Padangsidimpuan and Gunungsitoli) of 2.54 percent with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 113.87. Of the five CPI cities in North Sumatra, the highest yoy inflation occurred in Pematangsiantar of 3.17 percent with a CPI of 116.10 and the lowest occurred in Gunungsitoli of 0.50 percent with a CPI of 116.28.
  • Yoy inflation occurred due to price increases as indicated by an increase in most of the price index for the expenditure group, namely the food, beverage and tobacco group by 0.72 percent; the clothing and footwear group by 2.97 percent; the housing, water, electricity and household fuel group by 1.08 percent; equipment, equipment, and household routine maintenance group of 1.38 percent; the health group by 3.12 percent; transportation group of 11.86 percent; the recreation, sports and culture group by 6.22 percent; the education group by 0.55 percent; the group providing food and drink/restaurants by 3.29 percent; and the personal care and other services group of 3.66 percent. Meanwhile, the information, communication and financial services group experienced a deflation of 0.02 percent.
  • The main commodities contributing to yoy inflation in July 2023 include gasoline, rice, filter clove cigarettes, inner-city transportation, purebred chicken meat, garlic, and kretek cigarettes.
  • The month to month (mtm) inflation rate for July 2023 was 0.30 percent and the year to date (ytd) inflation rate for July 2023 was 0.98 percent.
