Abstract

  • In March 2024, (the level of inequality in population expenditure as measured by) Sumatera Utara's Gini Ratio was recorded at 0.297. This figure decreased by 0.012 points when compared to the Gini Ratio in March 2023 and also decreased by 0.015 points when compared to the Gini Ratio in March 2022, which was 0.312.
  • The Gini Ratio in urban areas in March 2024 was recorded at 0.325, while in rural areas it was 0.230. Both urban and rural areas experienced a decline of 0.015 points and 0.012 points respectively when compared to the Gini Ratio in March 2023.
  • Based on the World Bank's measure of inequality, the expenditure distribution of the bottom 40 percent of the population in March 2024 will be 23.00 percent. This means that population expenditure is still in the low inequality level category. If broken down by region, in urban areas the figure was recorded at 21.65 percent and in rural areas the figure was recorded at 25.86 percent, which means both are also in the low inequality category.
