Abstract

EXPORT
• The export value through loading ports in the Sumatera Utara region in March 2019 has increased compared to February 2019, namely from US $ 575.62 million to US $ 658.20 million or an increase of 14.35 percent. When compared with March 2018, Sumatera Utara exports decreased by 13.24 percent.
• The increase in Sumatera Utara export value in March 2019 against February 2019 occurred in animal / vegetable fats and oils (HS 08) of US $ 39.20 million (18.72%) followed by organic chemicals (HS 29) of US $ 7.46 million (29.71%) and rubber and rubber goods (HS 40) amounting to US $ 6.64 million (8.14%), while the decline in exports occurred in the coffee, tea, spices (HS 09) group of US $ 294 thousand (-0.81%).
• Exports to China in March 2019 were the largest, namely US $ 71.96 million, followed by the United States at US $ 70.48 million and the Netherlands at US $ 43.28 million, with contributions from the three reaching 28.22 percent.
• According to the group of export destination countries in March 2019, exports to the Asian region (outside ASEAN) are the largest with a value of US $ 215.91 million (32.80 percent).

IMPORT
• The import value through Sumatera Utara in March 2019 on the basis of CIF (cost, insurance & freight) amounted to US $ 383.51 million, an increase of 29.17 percent compared to February 2019 which reached US $ 296.90 million. When compared with the same month in the previous year, the value of imports decreased by 3.97 percent.
• Import value in March 2019 compared to February 2019, capital goods rose by 7.67 percent, raw materials / auxiliary goods rose by 33.62 percent and consumer goods fell by 20.31 percent.
• In March 2019, the class of goods experiencing the largest increase in import value was inorganic chemicals (HS 28) of US $ 28.16 million (440.13%), followed by pulp / leftovers from the food industry (HS 23) of US $ 14.00 million (79.19%) and machinery / mechanical aircraft (HS 84) of US $ 12.36 million (33.49%). While the categories of goods which experienced the largest decline in import value were iron and steel items (HS 73) of US $ 4.18 million (-30.86%) followed by iron and steel (HS 72) of US $ 3.12 million (- 18.07%) and electrical machinery / equipment (HS 85) of US $ 1.70 (-8.04%).
• The import value in March 2019 from China was the largest, namely US $ 79.10 million with its role reaching 20.62 percent of Sumatera Utara total imports, followed by Singapore at US $ 43.10 million (11.24%), and Malaysia at US $ 36 , 05 million (9.40%).
