Abstract

In April 2022, inflation in Sumatera Utara Province (combined of five cities, namely Sibolga, Pematangsiantar, Medan, Padangsidimpuan, and Gunungsitoli) was 0.44 percent with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 108.38. Of the five CPI cities in North Sumatra, all recorded inflation, namely Sibolga of 0.38 percent; Pematangsiantar by 0.39 percent; Medan by 0.43 percent; Padangsidimpuan by 0.78 percent; and Gunung Sitoli by 0.22 percent.
  • Inflation occurred due to an increase in prices as indicated by an increase in most indexes of the expenditure group, namely the clothing and footwear group by 1.08 percent; housing, water, electricity, and household fuel groups by 0.25 percent; household equipment, equipment, and routine maintenance group by 1.56 percent; health group by 0.23 percent; transportation group by 1.78 percent; recreation, sports, and culture groups by 0.04 percent; education group by 0.01 percent; food and beverage/restaurant supply group by 0.23 percent; and the personal care and other services group by 0.90 percent. Meanwhile, the information, communication and financial services group had a deflation of 0.08 percent. The groups that did not change were the food, beverage, and tobacco groups.
  • The main commodities contributing to inflation during April 2022 include cooking oil, air transportation, gasoline, broiler meat, wages for household assistants, wine, and pears.
  • The inflation rate for the calendar year (January-April 2022) is 1.99 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (April 2022 to April 2021) is 3.63 percent.
