Abstract

In November 2022 there was a combined year on year (yoy) inflation for five cities in Sumatera Utara (Sibolga, Pematangsiantar, Medan, Padangsidimpuan and Gunungsitoli) of 5.03 percent with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 111.10. Of the five CPI cities in Sumatera Utara, the highest yoy inflation occurred in Padangsidimpuan at 6.10 percent with a CPI of 114.91 and the lowest occurred in Gunungsitoli at 4.52 percent with a CPI of 112.63.
  • Inflation occurred due to price increases as indicated by an increase in the entire price index for the expenditure group, namely the food, beverage and tobacco group by 3.93 percent; the clothing and footwear group by 4.98 percent; the housing, water, electricity and household fuel group of 1.57; equipment, equipment, and household routine maintenance group of 6.00 percent; the health group by 1.89 percent; transportation group by 18.45 percent; the information, communication and financial services group by 0.11 percent; recreation, sport and culture group by 7.18 percent; the education group by 0.56 percent; the group providing food and drink/restaurants by 4.46 percent; and the personal care and other services group of 7.81 percent.
  • The main commodities contributing to yoy inflation in November 2022 include gasoline, air freight, filter clove cigarettes, rice, inner-city transportation, household fuel, and dencis fish.
  • The November 2022 month-to-month (mtm) inflation rate was recorded as deflation of 0.13 percent and the November 2022 year-to-date (ytd) inflation rate was 4.55 percent.
