Abstract

Gender is a multidimensional issue and is reflected in nearly all Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). To evaluate the outcomes of gender-responsive development, several indicators are used, one of which is the Gender Development Index (GDI). Therefore, it is important to observe and closely examine the development situation in North Sumatera from a gender perspective. The GDI compares the Human Development Index (HDI) of men and women in terms of education, health, and economic quality. The education dimension uses expected years of schooling and mean years of schooling, the health dimension uses life expectancy, and the economic dimension uses adjusted per capita expenditure. A GDI value close to 100 indicates that women’s development achievements are nearly equal to those of men. However, it is also necessary to pay attention to the level of male and female HDI in a region, whether both are high or both are low.
