On Monday, June 30, 2025, BPS-Statistics Sumatera Utara Province held an AMOR (Anak Medan mOnday Reaction) event with the theme Brain Rot. The speakers were Lidia Harni Pratiwi Aceh, Dyna Dara Yunita, and Wenny Sukma Nababan.
Brain rot is a term that describes the decline in brain function, including focus, thinking ability, and information processing, due to excessive consumption of shallow, repetitive, or meaningless social media content.
This term is commonly used in the context of: excessive viewing of fast-paced short videos (doom scrolling), entertainment content that lacks intellectual stimulation, and constant exposure to memes, celebrity gossip, online drama, or other "empty" content.
Symptoms of brain rot include a decline in cognitive abilities, reduced productivity, decreased motivation and mood, as well as a decline in an individual's emotional intelligence.
Brain rot can be prevented by engaging in positive alternative activities such as exercising, learning new skills, reading books, or cooking. These activities help keep the brain active and protect it from the habit of consuming unmeaningful content.
During the sharing session, the General Affairs of BPS-Statistics Sumatera Utara Province, Rahmat Gustiar, encouraged all employees to support the implementation of the Integrity Zone development assessment towards a Corruption-Free Zone (WBK).
