Abstract

Gender is a multidimensional issue and is included in almost all Sustainable Development Goals. In evaluating development results from a gender perspective, several indicators are used, one of which is the Gender Development Index (IPG). Therefore, it is deemed necessary to observe and examine further the development situation in the North Sumatra region based on gender. The IPG is a comparison between the Human Development Index (HDI) for men and the HDI for women seen from the quality of education, health and economic dimensions. The education dimension uses expected years of schooling and average length of schooling, the health dimension uses life expectancy, and the economic dimension uses adjusted per capita expenditure. The IPG figure which is close to 100 shows that women's development achievements are almost the same as men. However, we need to pay attention to the level of HDI achievement of men and women in a region, namely whether they are both high or equally low.
